Jacob gets his first official haircut!

Just a quick drop-in to show pics of Jacob with his new haircut. This was his first official one with a barber. This is how he woke up yesterday morning and Mitch decided to take him to the barber and then to daycare as he needed to go into Beaufort anyway:


Mitch said he did great the entire time. He actually sat in Daddy's lap and was great. Afterwards the barber asked if Mitch wanted to take some pictures and they sat him on the booster chair and he proceeded to start screaming. Both Daddy and the barber both got a kick out of that. So here is the picture of how he looks now:

Also here is the other big news in our life, though most everyone knows I think, but here is the sign.

Yes Mitch is offically in business for himself and his first week went really great and next week is looking good too. If you live here in Carteret County be on the lookout for his signs from the Radio Island Causeway all the way downeast and tell everyone you know too!

And one more cute picture for the day - I'm going through the boys clothes for the change of season and I found this shirt (I believe it was Hunter's) and put it on Jacob and he found Daddy's hat and Logan gave him the gun - hey it's the first day of muzzleloader season and Jacob is ready to go!

Logan's First Day of School

Okay - I figure it's better to start with now rather than try and catch up. So now I will try to keep up with the week-to-week and then go back when I get a chance.

So today was Logan's first day of school. Did I cry - well just a little, not as bad as I thought I would and I did wait to do it until I got back in the van after walking him into his classroom.

For those of you who don't know - Logan is attending our local charter school which is Tiller School in Beaufort. It goes from K-5th and it also has a Middle School. Mitch and I chose it because of it's great reputation and also because they have afterschool care and I'm not ready to cut my hours back yet so I need that. Logan was supposed to go to Smyrna and I would have loved for him to go there, but we didn't have anyone to pick him up on a daily basis. So we applied to Tiller and we lucked up - this was the first year of two kindergarten classes and there were also fewer siblings in this class so we got in.

We went to the popcorn party last Monday where Logan met 3 of his classmates and his teacher Ms. Annie. One of the boys was from t-ball and another was from BCA. He did great with them and was very excited.

I also had a new parent's orientation last week and Mitch and I went to the Open House on Thursday night. Mitch really seems to like the school. We both like their teaching methods (less book-learning, more hands-on and other types of learning - but there is no problem with their students passing the EOG testing).

So on to today - Logan was very excited and he told me so when he came downstairs this morning. Daddy took Jacob with him today so I could go with Logan so we headed out early and I'm glad we did - first morning traffic was pretty bad and we got to the parking lot across the street just a little before 8. We did make it to his classroom in plenty of time though and he found another one of his friends from BCA was in his class. Soon the bell rang and he lined up with his class and followed them in. I walked in for a few minutes, snapped a few pictures and then Miss Annie had the children say bye to the parents. Logan turned around and told me bye so I headed out the door and back to the van (to cry a little).

Today and tomorrow are half days so I picked him up at 11:30 and traffic was a nightmare - the transport vans hadn't arrived yet and so we were directed to wait in BCA's parking lot across the street. Finally we were allowed over and Logan was guided to the van and a teacher opened the door and let him in, and we headed to my work. I asked about his day and he was very excited. He said they get to play with the pirate things tomorrow. He also said they went outside today and had snack. That's all he really told me, but you could tell he had a great day and he is ready and raring to go back tomorrow. It was really great to see him that excited!

Christmas Morning:

Church was at 10:00 on Christmas morning which worked great for us since we had to get the boys up and wanted them to enjoy their Christmas morning. So we woke up bright and early, went up and got the boys up and proceded to see what Santa had brought.

When Logan saw these candy canes - he screamed out "Expensive candy canes" This came from a day we were in Walmart buying treats for his birthday party and he wanted to get these candy canes, but I told him we wouldn't get those because they were expensive. The child doesn't forget a thing!

Christmas Eve Highlights

Well it's been awhile, but I am going to start working on catching the blog up again.

So let's start with Christmas Eve- on Christmas Eve we go visit Pop and GG and then head into town to see Gran and Papa. We let the boys open their presents, go to church for the candlelight, carols and communion service and then head back to Gran and Papa's to eat and open presents. This year was really fun - Logan was really into it and Jacob didn't care (he just wanted to eat the wrapping).

Whew - by the time we got home it was after midnight, Mitch and I got the boys to bed and headed there ourselves - since it was all starting again the next morning!

December 18 - 24, 2005

Another cute outfit on Jacob - this is the outfit Gran and Papa gave him for Christmas last year before he was even born - it fits perfect this Christmas!

It was also Jacob's first Sunday School in his Sunday School class (usually he goes in ours), he did well in there but didn't sleep, but I don't think Mr. Joe and Ms. Denise had much trouble with him. Until August, he is in the same class with Logan, but then in August Logan will move up.

What a big week this is! First we have Logan's fifth birthday party, which I have to admit that I was dreading. This was the first year we were inviting other children, and I wasn't sure how I would like that. Well I will tell you right now, I had the best time and I am ready to do it again next year.

We had the party at our church and invited all of Logan's class and several other friends that had moved on from BCA. Five children showed up and had a blast. Logan's girlfriend came to and that was cute. Of course all the family was invited and most of them came. I must admit I ran around doing stuff so much and playing with the kids that I really didn't get to visit with family. But from all the comments I have heard, it sounds like everyone had a good time. I know Logan had a great time and he racked up so many great presents that we don't even need to have Christmas. Before the party I had a talk with him about if he got something he already had that he was to thank whoever and not mention he had it already. Well everything he got was new to him and he was thrilled. The kids played a drop the clothespin into a milk jug game, bingo, and musical chairs which was a hit with everyone. I think I had the perfect group of kids to introduce me to a kids party, they were rambunctious but very well-behaved. Several of the mom's stayed and were a great help to me, one boy's mom helped with the presents, making sure he got one to open and then putting them up and she even set up the table with all the presents on it for me to take the picture of. So as you will see - the party was a complete success! Thanks to everyone who came, sent or brought Logan's gifts and just generally made it a meaningful day for Logan!









After the party we went back to Gran and Papa's for Logan to open his gift from them, and then we headed home.



Monday, Gran and I took cupcakes to Logan's school for him and his friends and then we took him out to lunch at "Zappos" (El Zarape), we enjoyed our lunch and we wanted them to sing to Logan, but they don't do that, but they did bring him some fried ice cream, which he does not eat, so Gran and I had to eat it instead. After that we went to WalMart to get Logan's pictures done, and we weren't sure how that would go since he is in the fake smile mood lately. But we got a great photographer and he did wonderful - lots of great smiles. We shopped a little while and then I went back to work. Gran took Logan to the park where he made a new friend and they played together for awhile, then they headed and picked up Jacob and met me back at Gran and Papa's when we briefly got to see Papa before heading on home to celebrate some more.
That night we gave Logan his birthday presents from us, Polar Express and the surprise from DAddy - a BB gun. Logan really was thrilled with both. After that we watched Polar Express and ate and then Logan blew out five candles on a cupcake. It was a really enjoyable day and I cannot believe that Logan is five now. In some ways it isn't so surprising because he seems so much older at times and at other times, I can't believe 5 years have gone by since that baby was placed in my arms. Each year gets more and more fun so I can't see what else Logan is going to do!



A middle of the week lull led to me taking pictures of Jacob with Sebastian. Jacob has been rather obsessed with the cat and on this night the cat got close to him (no we didn't put the cat there). Well Jacob had a blast, first he got Sebastian's tail, then Sebastian settled down really close and Jacob went for clumps of fur. Well it must not have bothered Sebastian because he sat right there, only when Jacob started squealing loudly with delight did he run off!



On Thursday, it was the last day of pre-school before Christmas for Logan and it was his Christmas program and party. It was a cute little program and Logan had a speaking part which took him a few times to finally get right, but he kept starting over. He was going to do it his way and do it right. After the program, we went to his party and watched him eat. Gran and I had a good time at the program and party.
