Is it time for second grade already?

I can't believe it - Logan started second grade today and yes we are later than everyone else - we have campus construction going on and since we are a charter school we get to go back whenever the administration decides.

So he started back today and yesterday he was 2% excited. Last night he was 50% excited and I forgot to ask him this morning. I do know he said he wasn't nervous. Which was good, I was a nervous wreck for the both of us (traffic, having to carry in three bags of school supplies, having to carry Jacob while carrying school supplies . . . )

It went well - we were slightly late due to traffic but we weren't the last ones for sure. He's now at the age where pictures are getting not too cool at school, but he grudgingly let me get a few. I got a smile for one at the school at least when his best friend's dad made him laugh.

So without further commentary - here's the reason you come to this blog - pictures!

Now tell me why I miss him so much today? I work every week day - he stayed with Papa for the summer, but I miss him now. I think I'm just thinking about him growing up. Take care everyone!

Just a couple of pictures

I think I'm going to try and upload a pic or two a day or every few days - so keep checking back. It's easier that way and if you want you get a taste of our family more times a week.

So here's today's pic - this proves that whatever Logan wants to do, Jacob wants to do too! They are actually in a phase of getting along (for the moment and we are thrilled). This was taken on July 5th.

And here's a glimpse of the fireworks we saw from Granddaddy's boat on the 4th of July:
More later from the 4th and also our celebration of Mom's b-day at our house. Don't forget to check the post below and see what Logan's missing!

Last Day of School, Blackmail Pics and some sad news

June 6th was the last day of 1st grade for Logan. He's done wonderful this year. He's matured some, he did great on all his report cards and he's reading (and spelling) on a 3rd grade level. He's still Logan and loves to play his playstation and play with his toys - he's really into Star Wars right now. It's kind of strange to see your child interested in movies that were out when you were young. But it's pretty cool. Here are some pics from his end-of-year celebration and from the last day of school.

First is the one of him getting his certificate from his teacher - Ms. Katherine (who was a wonderful teacher this year). The lady laughing is Ms. Lindsey and she is the Director (principal) and the other lady is Ms. Lisa the music and technology teacher - you can't see his wonderful aide Ms. Jan:
Well I guess this is the requisite "Mom do you have to take so many pictures" pic. Oh well - you know Logan, on each side of him is a girlfriend, and the next boy on the left is his best friend.

Here he is more welcome to posing with his certificate on our front porch:

Andhis last day of school picture:

Now for the blackmail pics. These will be fun to have when Jacob is in high school. I wasn't feeling particulary well one evening so when Mitch dressed Jacob after his bath he had him run to me and this is what I saw:

The tank top is mine, but he's proud of his "dress". Other than this example Jacob is all boy so that's why this was so amusing.

And here's a pic of Logan in pirate pajamas and acting like a pirate:

Now to the sad news. Our beloved cat Sebastian who has been with us since we got married (I got him as a kitten - he was born April 15, 1997) died May 31st (ironically the same day I got my official diagnosis of fibromyalgia - good day huh?). It has hit both of us pretty hard. He was our baby before we had our babies. He loved Logan loving on him and he put up with what Jacob did to him. At one point he weighed over 23 lbs. He's had surgery and been bit by something in the backyard. He's been in one of our lap for many a movie or tv show. He was well-loved. Logan took it really hard, but he thinks we'll get to see Sebastian again one day in heaven. I tend to believe that too. But until then it still hurts to lose a pet so dear to you. We loved you Sebastian. This is how I'll always remember him:

And so I don't end on this sad note - at least I won't have to worry about Jacob eating cat food for awhile (and yes he really did - that's what's in his mouth) :)

Love you everyone - more later!

Turkeys and Space ships!

Some of you have seen the email that Mitch sent around proclaiming our good news, now it's time for the pictures.

Last Saturday morning Mitch went turkey hunting with Gregory and this is what he came home with this one which is about 22lbs and has a 10" beard:

It's very yummy too - Mitch fried some of it the other night like chicken fingers and both the boys agreed it was the best "chicken" they had ever eaten (okay we later confessed it was turkey and both boys still liked it).

The second bit of good news was we took Logan to his Cub Scout Space Derby that afternoon. His spaceship did really well through the whole event, he won every race but one and that put him in the finals. We just knew he would get 2nd place (and we were thrilled) since he was facing the one ship that beat him already. Then the race started and the other ship took off faster, but it's like Logan's got a second wind and then it blew past the other one. Wouldn't you know I forgot my camera that afternoon, but I did get some great pics at home:

Notice that Mitch was a rocket scientist that day, we all got a big kick out of that. And for those of you that are NASCAR fans - Logan has been #8 at both the pinewood derby and the space derby - I'm just glad that's not Junior's number anymore :)

Soccer!

So this spring Logan has decided to play soccer instead of baseball. I will now confess that I no nothing about soccer and we're almost done with the season and I still don't understand much - now I know the goal is to kick it into the other teams goal, but beyond that - I don't understand corner kick or how the ref is signalling. Give me football, baseball, basketball and racing - those I understand - soccer I do not. However Logan is having fun with practice and during the games. I confess the team isn't too good, but they play with their hearts most games and seem to be having fun so that is the most important thing. So on with it - here are some pictures from this season:

Ready to go before the game (I even had to learn how to do soccer socks)
Jacob wanted his picture done too:

An action shot:
Logan got to be goalie (and has been in every game since for at least one quarter):
I just caught this one in a picture - I was taking a picture of his first kick in as goalie (don't ask me what the name of that kick is) and right when he went to kick the ball both legs went out from underneath him - it was just a classic moment and so much like something I would do
But his next kick was good:
And sometimes being goalie is kind of lonely and boring:
And the boys' favorite part - the "good game" ending
